[ ] Is there violence, suicidal thinking, overdose risk, or another crisis? [ ] If yes, call 911. [ ] If the issue is emotional crisis support, call or text 988. SUPPORT OR RESCUE? [ ] Will this help the person take responsibility? [ ] Will it remove a consequence that should stay in place? [ ] Is this help tied to recovery, sober living, or another real next step? [ ] Is the family feeling pressured to say yes too fast? WHAT TO SAY [ ] "I care about you, and I am not able to do that." [ ] "I can help you find the right next step." [ ] "We can talk when this is calm and safe." [ ] "We will support recovery, but we will not cover consequences." FOLLOW-UP [ ] Decide who should be notified. [ ] Write down the next practical step.
